Ellen Pearson hit a hat-trick as Lynn Ladies marked their debut at The Walks with a 3-2 win over Fulham.
The side formerly known as Greenpark Rovers settled in very well at their new home on a sweltering day. It made for a good atmosphere with a raffle at half time adding to the occasion.
An impressive performance had manager Bill Page purring; 'It was excellent on a day with this heat they kept going the whole 90 minutes.
'It was a great achievement, we could have won by more. I had four 14 year olds out there who had never played at the The Walks before.'
The crowd lapped up this special pre-season freindly which saw Lynn stretch their unbeaten run in 11-a-side to 18 months. There was even time for 'handbags at ten paces' stuff as four players tempers flared in the heat just before the end.
Lynn fully justified the step up from the Norfolk Girls League to the Eastern Region League and the FA Cup.
Due to traffic problems from London the game started 50 minutes late but Lynn made up for lost time as Fulham from the Greater London League were outclassed. Pearson coolly twice slotted the ball into the corner, then the visitors pulled one back. Early in the second half Pearson notched her hat-trick as her header was adjudged to be over the line before the keeper saved. It could have been four but a blistering diving header hit the bar and bounced on the line.
'That was a bit like Geoff Hurst in 1966' said Page. 'But what a brilliant header.'
Not bad for a team playing 11-a-side for just four seasons.
